Detroit, MI -

Berry Gordy, the founder of Motown Records announced Wednesday he will donate $4 million to the Motown Museum’s expansion project. The museum’s expansion efforts have been ongoing since 2016 and Gordy’s donation is the largest individual contribution made so far. Plans for the expansion include interactive exhibits, a performance theater, recording studios, an expanded retail area and meeting spaces. Although they confirmed Gordy’s donation, museum officials will not release current fundraising totals. Construction has not started on the renovation and a timetable is still unknown. Donations have also been made by numerous philanthropies, individuals and corporations including Ford Motor Company.
